Overwatch League franchise Philadelphia Fusion has received an official sponsorship from telecommunications equipment manufacturing company ARRIS.

The company will act as a jersey sponsor for the Comcast Spectacor-owned franchise.

In the announcement for the deal, ARRIS explained that its knowledge in connectivity will be used to help Philadelphia Fusion once the Overwatch League moves to home matches being played in local venues.

Pursuit became the analytics partner of the franchise in August last year, aiming to improve player performance for Overwatch League’s second season. Pursuit’s program is designed to offer further information following a match, allowing additional statistics and analysis to be made – thus, in theory, identifying areas for improvement.

Philadelphia Fusion is one of 12 original franchises to join Blizzard’s Overwatch League. Following the end of the competition’s inaugural season, eight expansion slots were put up for grabs for anywhere from $30-60 million (£23-47 million). The league’s second season is poised to start on February 14th.

The franchise was first unveiled in early November 2017. The ownership group, Comcast Spectacor also owns NHL team Philadelphia Flyers and indoor sports arena, Wells Fargo Center Complex. In early 2013, Comcast invested $150 million ($116 million) in ARRIS, reportedly purchasing around 7.85% of the company. In mid 2016, ARRIS announced a warrant agreement with Comcast cable, providing Comcast with technology for its video, data, and voice services.

Esports Insider says: The fact that Comcast Spectacor has its own arena in Philadelphia, combined with ARRIS now arriving on the scene, suggests it wont be hard for Fusion to find its home once localised venues become necessary.
