LoL Fans Watched More than 1 Billion Hours on Twitch in 2016

While the fact that League of Legends is the most watched game on, the world’s most popular streaming site, should come as to surprise to anyone who’s checked out their top ten viewed games on a regular basis, the margin by which it wins that award is another story entirely. Gameloco provided an infographic, seen below, that detailed exactly how many viewing hours each game on the website earned, and League of Legends not only beat its nearest competitor, it nearly lapped them.

League of Legends garnered an incredible 1030 million hours of viewership or, put more correctly, 1.03 billion hours. For comparison, it’s nearest two competitors, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and DOTA 2, earned a combined 1.1 billion viewers, making League not only the most popular game on the site but the most popular one by an enormous margin.

WWG Lead Host and Esports Commentator Matt Best was unsurprised, however.

“League of Legends’ growth shouldn’t surprise anyone and neither should the tally that they have accumulated in terms of hours played. League is easily the most popular game out there right now and will continue to be so for quite a while.”

“Interest will only continue to grow as we’re seeing big names such as the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and Lionsgate invest not only into the esports industry but also League of Legends. The infrastructure and backing these groups will have will help garner more interest from those outside the scene that may not be heavily involved with video games.”
